Architecture Museum Tours for Patients of the Psychiatric Open Ward, Munich
During my time at the Architecture Museum, I began giving tours for groups of patients from the psychiatric open ward from the University Hospital of TUM, Klinikum Rechts der Isar. Together with medical personnel (doctors and nurses) we did a casual tour in the current exhibitions and talked about architecture and the city from an everyday experience. We didn’t model the tours around the topic of mental health and architecture. Rather, we left it open to the group if they felt like discussing these topics from a personal perspective, or not. Mostly, the tours started conversations about challenges and flaws in the urban environment or questions of living and housing.
The tours stopped during the Covid lockdowns, but I’m always open to do museum or city tours in similar settings.
